Fick Family 5K
Evan Fick (29) began his running career in Garretson, SD. While attending Garretson High School, Evan participated in both cross country and track and field. Evan attended South Dakota State University, where he initially co-founded the SDSU running club. He then went on to join the SDSU cross country and track teams. Evan met his wife, Anna (28), who is also an SDSU cross country and track alum, while attending the school. They have been married for five years this October and have two daughters—Ruth (4) and Maria (2).
After noticing increased knee pain while running, Evan made an appointment with his doctor. After further testing, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his knee in 2024. This cancer is aggressive, and the treatment resulted in the amputation of his leg. In hopes of running again in the future, Evan put months of effort toward healing and adapting to his prosthetic leg. In July 2026, it was confirmed that Evan’s cancer had spread to his lungs. As Evan and his family enter a time of treatment again, we hope to provide financial support during this incredibly difficult time.
All proceeds will go toward helping Evan and his family with the financial challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis. These include medical expenses, travel and lodging for treatment, and meals. This will allow them to focus on fighting, healing, and spending time together.
